Whether you’re an experienced seller or new to ecommerce, this guide will help you attract more traffic and increase your candle sales.
Let’s get started…
1. Create simple designs for your print on demand candles
Here are a few tips about how to create designs for your POD candles:
Keep your designs simple.
When it comes to most POD products, including candles, simple designs work best. Avoid using too many colors, fonts, or graphics. Having a lot of design elements can make your candles look messy and unclear. Stick to simple, text-based designs with a single black font. That way, you keep your designs clean and appealing to lots of shoppers.
Here are some examples of designs with tons of reviews that are all pretty simple text:
If you DO use images — use high-quality ones.
This is a must if you do add images to your designs. Make sure all your images are clear and high-resolution. Low-quality images can make your candles look unprofessional and may lead to fewer sales opportunities. Aside from showing your candles from all angles, it’s also a good idea to include lifestyle images showing your candles in use.
Offer the option to personalize your candles.
Customers enjoy personalization options. With personalization, they can add text, photos, or artwork to your candle designs, making your products unique to them. Providing customization also helps you stand out from your competitors. So whenever possible, allow customers to add personal touches to your candles.

2. Optimize your listings for selling candles on Amazon and Etsy
Here are some tips about how to optimize your candle listings on Amazon and Etsy:
Write clear, keyword-rich titles.
When creating titles for your candle listings, use descriptive and relevant keywords. Avoid overloading your titles with too many keywords, a practice known as “keyword stuffing.” Instead, focus on using descriptive words like “soy” and “vanilla scented” that accurately describe your candles. Keep your titles easy to read and understand.
To find the best keywords for your candles, you can use tools like…
You can also use Etsy and Amazon to quickly find relevant keywords. Here are some examples:
Write detailed descriptions about your print on demand candles
In your candle listings’ descriptions, be sure to mention the most important details about your products. These details include…
- 9 oz or 16 oz
- Black lid UV printed
- Hand-poured 85/15 soy blend wax for clean burning
- Vanilla, watermelon, birch & black pepper, or Baja breeze scented
Think about the questions potential buyers might ask about your candles. Then, answer those questions in your listings’ descriptions.

Use high-quality lifestyle images in your candle listings.
As I mentioned earlier, you should try to include images that show your candles in use. These photos are called lifestyle images. You could include an image of a person reading a book on their couch while one of your candles burns on a nearby table. Or you could add an image of someone using one of your candles as they take a relaxing bubble bath.
Lifestyle images help shoppers visualize what it would be like to own your products. And you can use your candle images to help paint that picture for them. (You can access my free candle lifestyle mockups below.)
3. Provide professional customer service to your customers
For a successful online store, great customer service is a must. Customers expect top-notch attention and support, and this can lead to loyal and returning customers.
To provide great customer service, you should be attentive, responsive, and empathetic to customers’ needs. Address inquiries politely and promptly. You want to respond to all messages within twenty-four hours.
Happy customers are more likely to come back and spread positive word-of-mouth about your business. And that’s really the best kind of marketing you can get.
To simplify the customer service process, you can use copy-and-paste scripts for common inquiries. You can access a collection of these customer service scripts that my assistant created here.
4. Offer discounts and promotions for your print on demand candles
Consider offering discounts and promotions to attract more customers and boost your sales. Special deals encourage customers to pick your products over competitors. And they are especially impactful around special occasions or sales events, such as…
- gift-giving holidays (Christmas, Hanukkah, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Fathers, etc.)
- wedding season
- Prime Day
- Black Friday
- Cyber Monday
You can also make customer loyalty programs that offer special discounts to reward…
- repeat purchases
- referrals
- social media engagement
Aside from boosting sales, offering discounts and promotions helps you move slow-selling items and reduce excess inventory. To get more information about setting up discounts and coupon codes on Amazon and Etsy, click here.
