Making money online as a third-party seller on ecommerce platforms like Amazon and Etsy is a great way to live your best life. You can set your own hours, work from home, and make a good income doing something you love. But it’s not always easy to get started.

Below, I share my top tips to help you get started and be a success.

Let’s take a look…

1. Do your research

The first step is to do your research and find the right platform for you. If you’re selling handmade goods, Etsy is a great option. If you’re selling products that are already available on Amazon, then using their seller platform is a good choice. There are also other platforms like Shopify where you can set up your own online store.

You also need to research your target market and any niches you’d like to specialize in. This will help you determine what products to sell and how to price them.

2. Create quality products

No matter what you’re selling, it’s important to offer quality products. This is what will set you apart from the competition and help you build a loyal customer base. Take the time to create products that are well-made and original.

Here are some suggestions for the types of products you might like to sell:

  • Handmade jewelry (or print-on-demand jewelry)
  • Vintage finds
  • Art prints (physical or digital)
  • Items for the home, such as coffee mugs, coasters, Christmas ornaments, or shot glasses

NOTE: If you decide to go the print-on-demand route, make sure to use a quality printer. This will ensure that your products are made to a high standard and are shipped quickly to your customers.

3. Take great photos

Your product photos are one of the most important selling tools you have. Make sure to take clear, well-lit photos that show off your products in the best light possible. This will help them sell faster and for more money.

If you don’t have the means of taking great photos yourself, you can use product mockups instead. These are digital images of your products that can be placed in real-life scenarios, such as on a coffee table or in someone’s hand. You can find free and paid product mockups online.

4. Write compelling descriptions

In addition to great photos, you also need to write compelling product descriptions. This is your chance to really sell your products and convince potential buyers to make a purchase. Take the time to write detailed, persuasive, keyword-rich descriptions that will make people want to buy from you.

5. Promote your products

Once you have your products listed online, it’s important to promote them. There are a number of ways to do this, including social media marketing, paid advertising, and email marketing. The key is to find the right mix of strategies that work for you and your budget.

Here are some tips for successfully marketing your ecommerce products:

  • Use social media to share photos and stories about your products. Make sure to use hashtags and tag relevant accounts.
  • Run ads on Facebook, Instagram, or Google AdWords.
  • Send out a weekly email newsletter featuring your latest products, special offers, and coupon codes.
  • Collaborate with other businesses or influencers in your niche. This can help you reach a new audience and get more exposure for your products.

6. Offer great customer service

Finally, one of the most important keys to success as an online seller is to offer great customer service. This includes responding to questions quickly (24 hours or less), resolving issues fairly, and shipping orders on time. If you can do this, you’ll be well on your way to making money as a third-party seller.

7. Choose the right price point

Another important factor to consider is pricing. You want to strike a balance between making a profit and being competitive. Take a look at what other sellers in your niche are charging for similar products. This will give you a good starting point.

You can also offer discounts and special promotions to attract buyers. Just be sure that you’re still making a profit after any discounts are applied.

Follow these tips and you’ll be on your way to success as an online seller on Etsy, Amazon, Shopify, or any other platform of your choosing.
