Design creation is such a big part of the Low Hanging System. So I’m always trying to find new ways to come up with design ideas. And recently, I came across a super useful tool called Alura.
With Alura, I’m able to find highly sellable, popular products on Etsy. Then, I can use those products as inspiration for my designs.
Below, I walk you through the process of using Alura to find these products on Etsy. Plus, I share three Etsy designs I found using it. Then I show you how I drew inspiration from those designs to create designs of my own using Canva.
Let’s take a look…
How to use Alura to find popular products on Etsy
My team and I use Alura to manage and grow my Etsy shops. You can do all kinds of things with this tool, including…
- Research keywords and product ideas
- Find listing recommendations
- Get follow-up reminders
- Track your profits and fees
- Develop email marketing campaigns
- Generate automated social media posts
You can start using Alura with a free account. Then, if you want to upgrade, pricing starts at $19.99 a month.
As I said before, the Alura tool offers a lot of different functionalities. But the one I want to focus on is using Alura to find popular products on Etsy.
When you research popular Etsy products, you can learn more about the types of products and designs that sell well on the platform. Then, you can use those products and designs as inspiration for the designs you create. This helps you take a more targeted approach to your design creation, which is more likely to result in sales.
So how exactly can you use Alura to find popular Etsy products?
Log into your Alura account. On the left-hand side, select Product Research then Product Seeker.
Here, you can specify the type of product you’re looking for (e.g. wall art). You can choose a category (e.g. Art & Collectibles) and a country (e.g. the United States) from the dropdown menus. And you can choose minimum and maximum values for specific metrics as well as item types:
Metrics
- total sales
- total revenue
- monthly sales
- monthly revenue
- price
- favorites
- age (days)
Item type
- handmade item
- vintage item
- craft supply item
- digital item
- customizable item
I recommend focusing on the category, country, and total sales (over 500).
When you’re ready, hit the blue search button. The search results will show you a list of all the products that meet your criteria. You can see their price, how many times they’ve been favorited, their monthly and total sales, and more.
Scroll through the list of products until you find ones that inspire you.
You can watch a tutorial on their site here.
And here’s a video walkthrough of an example of an Alura search to find popular Etsy products:

Below, you’ll see three pieces of Etsy wall art that I found using Alura and then recreated using Canva.
SeptandFlyArt
SeptandFlyArt sells nothing but wall art and posters. The image you see below is one of the shop’s top-selling items.
Currently, SeptandFlyart has 9,165 total sales. The poster above has sold 2,237 times in 90 days, averaging 745 sales a month. It’s earned a total of $17,896 and its average earnings are $5,960 a month. Normally, the poster sells for $8, but it’s on sale now for $2.40.

Recreating a version of this design with a design tool like Canva is relatively easy. Of course, you don’t ever want to copy another Etsy seller’s designs exactly. You should use other sellers’ designs as inspiration only. In this case, the inspiration is art featuring specific playing cards and a punchy headline.
Here’s a video walkthrough of how you might recreate this design with your own spin.

Design notes:
I chose a neutral color for the background so it would have the most widespread appeal.
I might have even considered changing the color of the diamonds to black or another neutral color. In the future, I may want to experiment with two versions of the design (one with red diamonds and one with black) to see which sells better.
For the text, I chose a simple and readable font and made it black. Again, I did this so the design would appeal to as many people as possible.
AmptonDesigns
AmptonDesigns sells wall art and prints mostly related to astrology and spiritual and emotional well-being. The image below is of one of their top-selling items.
Currently, AmptonDesigns has made 2,293 sales. This particular listing has sold 717 times in 76 days, averaging 239 sales a month. It’s earned $10,747 in total and averages $3,582 a month. This poster set normally sells for $14.99, but it’s on sale now for $8.99.

Here’s a video walkthough of how you might create a design similar in feel to what AmptonDesigns has to offer.

Design notes:
Once again, I tried to make this design have as much widespread appeal as possible. I chose a neutral color for the background and blue for the colored parts.
In this design’s product listing, I might offer customers the option to customize the design with any color they want. Or I might make a few different versions featuring different colors.
I could also give customers the option to customize the text as well in case they aren’t sold on “tranquility.”
MegDigDesign
MegDigDesign sells art prints, stickers, magnets, and buttons. Most of their designs are customizable. Customers can send in specific quotes or messages and this shop turns them into colorful prints. This is one of the shop’s top sellers.
This shop has 3,224 sales in total. This listing has sold 616 times in 502 days, averaging 36 sales a month. It’s earned $13,522 in total and averages $792 a month. The poster costs between $22 and $43, depending on the size.

Offering personalization is a great way to make your listings stand out from the competition. Of course, offering personalization does lead to more work for you since you have to create each of the personalized designs.
So it’s up to you if you want to go this route. You could always charge a little more for your customizable prints to offset the additional time and energy you need to put in.

Design notes:
This design is all about customization. A great idea would be to make a few different versions of the design featuring different color schemes. For example, I could make one with shades of pink and purple and another one with more earthy tones. Then, I could let customers select whichever color scheme they prefer.

What website do you create the product designs on?
Hey Sarah, Sorry, what do you mean?
DO YOU EVER CONSIDER THE COPYRIGHT LAWS ON ALL OF THE PHOTOS YOU’RE USING? I’m watching your webinar and none of your photos are sourced / referenced. even if they are creative commons more than likely they have attribution rights that you seem to be ignoring.
I couldn’t access the videos. I get a message that says media error.
Weird! They are working for me. Please try accessing the videos using a different browser. I’m using Chrome.
