Custom cosmetic bags are a new addition to the Custom Happy lineup. These bags are useful, durable, make great gifts, AND get a lot of searches on Amazon and Etsy (which is a big reason we chose them).

In this post, you’ll learn everything you need to know about selling custom cosmetic bags. This includes how to create winning designs and promote your products.

Plus, I share a batch of cosmetic bag mockups I had my fantastic designers whip up. The mockups are free to use, and you can add them to your product listings and promotional content to make them stand out more.

Let’s take a look…

1. How to personalize a cosmetic bag – Create designs that sell

Below, you’ll find easy tips about how to design the best custom cosmetic bags:

Keep your designs simple.

A clean, minimalist design works best for most print-on-demand products. And this includes custom cosmetic bags. Don’t use a ton of different colors, fonts, or graphics. Too many competing elements make your designs feel cluttered and confusing to shoppers.

Plus, the more elements you add, the more reasons shoppers have to potentially dislike them. In general, simple, text-based designs using one, readable black font work best.

Use high-quality images.

If you use any images with your cosmetic bag designs, make sure they’re clear and high-resolution. Low-quality images make your bags look cheap and unprofessional. And customers will be less likely to buy them.

Know your audience.

Think about who your target market is and design your cosmetic bags accordingly. Most likely, your target will be women. The most common use for these bags is to carry makeup. So you can make designs that say things like “Hello, Beautiful!” or “You’re gorgeous inside and out.”

You may want to make unisex designs as well. Shoppers can also use these bags to carry toiletries, like toothpaste and shaving cream, while they travel. For unisex, travel designs, you might say, “Make life an adventure” or “Embrace life’s detours.” You can also let people customize your bags. They can add their name, initials, a special date, or a quote or image they like.

Encourage personalization.

Customers love personalization. And pretty much any design you create can be personalized. Let customers add their name, initials, a special date, or a quote or image they like.

2. How to optimize your listings on Etsy and Amazon

After creating your cosmetic bag designs, you need to make your listings.

Here are a few tips:

Write clear, keyword-rich titles.

Your titles should be clear and keyword-rich. But you shouldn’t “keyword stuff.” Include keywords that describe your custom cosmetic bags, like “polyester canvas” and “removable black strap.” Just don’t go overboard. Your titles should make sense and be easily readable.

Here are some popular cosmetic-bag-related keywords according to Etsy and Amazon:

You can also search for “makeup bag” and find keywords there, too.

Write detailed descriptions.

In your product descriptions, highlight your cosmetic bags’ most important details. These include…

  • the materials used to make the bags
  • the size of the bags
  • how the bags close
  • whether the designs are printed on the front and back of the bags

Think of questions shoppers might have about your cosmetic bags. Then, provide answers to those questions in your descriptions.

Here’s what you need to know about Custom Happy’s custom cosmetic bags:

Use high-quality lifestyle images in your listings.

Besides your main product photo, add photos that show your cosmetic bags in use. These are called lifestyle images. Add photos of people holding your cosmetic bags or pulling makeup or toiletries from them.

Lifestyle images help shoppers visualize what it would be like to own your products. And you can use your product photos to help paint that picture and increase your sales.

3. How to provide excellent customer service

As an ecommerce seller, customer service needs to be a top priority. To keep your customers happy, aim to respond to all messages within 24 hours. Whenever issues arise, resolve them quickly and politely. You need to make your customers feel valued. Also, put yourself in your customers’ shoes and respond how you’d like to be responded to.

To make your customer service flow more quickly and efficiently, you can use copy-and-paste scripts for questions and concerns you get frequently. You can find those scripts here.

4. How to offer discounts and promotions

Discounts and promotions are great ways to increase interest in your cosmetic bags. And more interest often leads to more sales. Both Amazon and Etsy let you set up sales and coupons in your shops. You can offer percentage-off discounts, dollar-amount-off discounts, or free shipping.

For example, you could run a sale offering 10% off your cosmetic bags or $3 off your entire order. You can run holiday-specific promotions (for example, Mother’s Day). Or you can run promotions “just because.”

5. How to market your custom cosmetic bags

After creating listings for your cosmetic bags, you can benefit from doing some marketing. While marketing isn’t necessary when you do the Low Hanging System, you can significantly increase your sales if you do some advertising.

Here are a few simple strategies to help market your cosmetic bags:

Use social media.

Posting on social media is a great way to showcase your cosmetic bags. To make people want to learn more about your products, use…

  • Eye-catching images
  • Catchy captions
  • Relevant hashtags

You can also use social media to connect with potential customers. The most popular social media platforms are Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok. I recommend creating accounts and profiles on each of these platforms.

Use influencer marketing.

Both the beauty and travel industries are huge. And you can find tons of beauty and travel bloggers or social media influencers to partner with to promote your bags. Relevant bloggers and influencers can share posts and videos about your cosmetic bags with their audiences. And this exposure can significantly increase your chances of making sales.

Run paid ads.

If you have Facebook and Instagram accounts, you can run ads for your print-on-demand cosmetic bags. You can target potential customers based on demographics, interests, or location. Of course, only do this if you have the budget for it.
