If I had zero sales on Etsy, here’s what I would do

If you’re not getting any sales or traffic on Etsy, it may be time to rethink your shop and make some changes – especially if you’ve graduated past the normal “low hanging” model.

If you are still NEW to low hanging system, then this post is the best place for you to go (for LHS members only).

But if you’ve been running LHS for a while and want to make some more sales, then this post may give you some fresh ideas.

Besides – whether you’re a seasoned Etsy seller or you’re just getting started, there’s always room for improvement. If you’re not getting the traffic or sales you want, it might be time to rethink your shop.

Here are a few things you can do that will lead to guaranteed Etsy sales…

Review your shop’s stats and look for ways to make improvements

As a seller on Etsy, it’s important to regularly review your shop’s stats and look for ways to improve. This can help you attract more buyers and sell more products. When reviewing your shop’s stats, there are a few key things to look at.

Shop views

This can give you an idea of how visible your shop is on Etsy. If you’re not getting many views, consider ways to make your shop more discoverable, such as using keywords in your listings’ titles and descriptions. You might also consider promoting your shop on social media to drive traffic.

Conversion rate

Your conversion rate is the percentage of visitors who come to your shop and make a purchase. A low conversion rate could mean that potential buyers struggle to find what they’re looking for.

If your conversion rate is low, make sure your listings’ titles and descriptions are clear and concise and accurately reflect what your products are.

For example, if you have a coffee mug featuring a pit bull design, don’t just call it a “dog coffee mug.” Get more specific and call it a “pit bull coffee mug.” Not every dog owner wants a mug with a pit bull on it. So while you may attract more traffic with the first title, a lot of those visitors are going to bounce because they don’t own pit bulls.

Average order value (AOV)

Average order value refers to the average amount that buyers spend when they make a purchase from your shop. A low average order value could mean you’re not selling enough high-priced items or that buyers are only buying one item at a time.

If you want to increase your average order value, consider adding some higher-priced items to your shop, running a promotion, or offering some bundle deals.

Make sure your items are accurately and competitively priced

As an Etsy seller, it’s important to make sure your items are accurately and competitively priced. By doing so, you’ll be more likely to make sales and grow your business. There are a few things to keep in mind when pricing your items.

First, consider the cost of materials and production. You obviously want to make a profit from each sale (you can use my free Etsy Profit Calculator to help with this). Second, take a look at similar items on Etsy and price your items accordingly. You don’t want to underprice or overprice your items, as either can lead to lost sales.

Finally, don’t forget to factor in shipping costs when pricing your items. By taking these factors into consideration, you can be sure that your items are accurately and competitively priced, increasing your chances of making sales on Etsy.

Simplify your designs and create more products to make guaranteed Etsy sales

You don’t want to make your designs overly fancy. And you should avoid overcrowding your designs with too many elements. Simple, text-based based designs with black text sell the best, hands down. You don’t want to give shoppers any reason not to purchase.

But while you absolutely want to err on the simple side, you also want to make your designs unique. But you can do that by coming up with unique phrases and messages. Combining multiple niches into one design is often a good way to achieve this.

For example, you could take the following niches: pit bull owners, coffee lovers, and yoga practitioners and create something like, “Coffee first. Then pit bulls and yoga.” This phrase is ultra simple but it appeals to a very specific audience, which gives it its uniqueness. And any pit-bull-loving, coffee-drinking, yoga-practicing person would have to have it.

Additionally, you want to create as many designs as possible. The more opportunities you give shoppers to buy from you, the more sales you’re going to make.

To quickly increase your inventory’s volume, what’s helpful is to create a simple design template, such as “I love my _____ almost as much as my _____” and then plug a variety of topics into each blank. For example, “I love my collie almost as much as my husband” or “I love football almost as much as my girlfriend.”

As you can see, this template could apply to multiple niches, quickly providing you with a whole bunch of new design ideas.

Improve your product descriptions and add engaging mockups

Product descriptions are one of the most important selling tools on Etsy. They are your chance to really tell the story behind your product and connect with your customer.

While a well-written description is important, adding in engaging photos or mockups can really help to set your listing apart. If you are selling a physical product, take the time to stage an attractive photo that really highlights the features of your item.

If you are selling a digital product, consider creating a mockup that potential customers can interact with.

By taking the time to craft compelling descriptions and visuals, you will be able to attract more attention to your listing and ultimately boost your sales.

Add new niche topics to your shop

Adding new niche topics to your Etsy shop can be a great way to boost your sales. It can help you attract new customers, who are interested in the new topics you’re offering, and it can also help you stand out from the competition. But how do you choose the right niche topics to add to your shop?

Here are a few tips…

First, consider your existing customer base. What are they interested in? What do they search for on Etsy? Adding new designs that appeal to your existing customer base is a great way to increase sales.

Second, take a look at trends. What’s hot right now? What types of designs are selling well on Etsy? Adding items that are trendy and in demand can help you attract new customers and boost your sales.

Finally, think outside the box. What unique designs can you offer that no one else has? Adding unique and innovative items to your Etsy shop can help you stand out from the crowd and attract new customers.

Get active on social media

If you’re an Etsy seller, social media can be a powerful tool to help boost your sales. By sharing images of your products, tagging relevant hashtags, and connecting with other creatives, you can reach a whole new audience of potential customers.

And the best part is that it doesn’t have to be super time-consuming or expensive. A few minutes each day can make a big difference. So if you’re ready to give your Etsy shop a boost, here are a few tips to get started…

Choose the right platform

Not all social media platforms are equal when it comes to promoting your business. Consider where your target market hangs out online and focus your efforts there. For example, if you sell mostly print-on-demand jewelry, Instagram or TikTok could be a great platform to share photos or videos of your latest offerings.

Use high-quality images

One of the most important things to remember when sharing photos of your products on social media is to use high-quality images. After all, your images are what’s going to capture people’s attention and convince them to click through to your shop.

If you don’t have professional photography equipment, don’t worry, there are plenty of free online resources that can help you take great product shots. Plus, I offer a whole bunch of product mockups. Just search my website.

Use relevant hashtags

Hashtags are a great way to reach new people who might be interested in your products. When choosing hashtags, try to be specific and use ones that are relevant to your product or niche. For example, if you sell printable cards, some good hashtags to use could be #printablecards, #etsycards, or even # stationery.

Connect with other creatives

One of the best things about social media is that it’s a great way to connect with other creatives. By following and interacting with other Etsy sellers, you can not only get some great ideas but also build up a community of potential customers.

Promote your sales and discounts

Everyone loves a good sale, so be sure to let your followers know when you’re running a promotion or discount in your Etsy shop. This is a great way to boost traffic to your store and make some extra sales.

Giveaway products

Hosting a giveaway is a great way to drum up some excitement for your Etsy shop. Make sure to promote the giveaway on all of your social media platforms and include a clear call-to-action (such as “like and share this post to be entered to win”).

Share behind-the-scenes content

People love getting a peek behind the scenes, so don’t be afraid to share some behind-the-scenes content from your Etsy business. This could be anything from photos of your workspace to a video tour of your studio.
